I'm considering showing details of interesting projects that I do on the beach.
I'll probably add them as sub-pages or something.
Here's a piece I was struggling to decide what to do with after failing to complete it! I wanted to draw Sir David Attenborough as his 100th birthday was coming up. I headed to Bridlington beach as I knew the annual dog ban had just come into force and the beach would be quiet.
He turned out to be quite a complicated subject, and at around 5 hours in I had to admit defeat as the tide caught me - leaving him resting his face on an undrawn hand.
I was pondering whether to have another attempt at drawing him. I put the question to Facebook friends and they seemed happy enough with it as it was, so I decided to just go with it - use the footage I had and write an appropriate caption.
Writing appropriate captions is actually something I struggle with more than creating sand art! I knew everybody else would be heaping praise - but reflecting reality - as David has also realised, is more important to me. Well, that and brevity!
I popped my drone up and flew about for a couple of minutes before the tide hit. Here's the full rough footage. The combination of wind and my erratic flying skills didn't leave much footage that was usable!
With hindsight, I do now wish I'd redrawn the piece. Even as it is, it's the most complicated and best sand art I've ever drawn - finished it would have been world class.
On the bright side, I did draw this wonderful pig instead. He's more in line with my work ethos and almost as complex as Sir David.
